Booting Linux in five seconds

There has been lots of buzz about Booting time in various Linux OS. While Ubuntu is assuring 20 seconds booting time in their latest release. Fedora is also claiming to have 20 Seconds of booting time in just released Fedora Core 11. Person i have not tried any of them - but the trend seems promising.

Ubuntu 'Jaunty Jackalope' Jumps Linux Forward

Known for its quirky animal named Linux releases, Canonical, the lead commercial sponsor behind Ubuntu Linux, is out with its 9.04 release today, codenamed the "Jaunty Jackalope." The "Jaunty" release includes new versions for netbooks, desktops and servers and features faster boot times and cloud computing capabilities.

This is the tenth release for Ubuntu since its inception in 2004. Ubuntu has grown from being a small Debian Linux based distribution to one of the most popular Linux distributions, with more than Windows 7 release.

I manage quite a lot of different computers, network devices, etc. As we are using an internal web based documentation system I thought it would be useful to be able to just click on ssh://user@thiscomputer.com and telnet://thisdevice.com links and have Firefox open a terminal where I’d be connected to this specific machine.
