Linux kernel 2.6.35 released
Linus Torvalds, on 1st August, announced the release of new Linux kernel 2.6.35. It includes support for new Intel Cougarpoint chipset and improvements to AMD support among other new features.

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala officially released.
Canonical has officially released Ubuntu 9.10, codenamed Karmic Koala, on 29th October 2009. This is their 11th release. The release cycle of Karmic was different this time with only one Beta. There are a lot of improvements over Jaunty.
It uses GNOME 2.28.1 as desktop environment, EXT4 file system, 2.6.31.1 Linux kernel, Xsplash, new art work and more.
New improvements include:
Improved Boot time
EXT4 as the default file system over EXT3
New boot loader. Grub2 is used for EXT4 support
New X based splash screen
New splash theme
New login screen
New wallpapers

Google Chrome officially released for Linux!
Google, on June 4th, announced the availability of its browser Chrome for Linux as well. The version 3.0.183.1 is still very unstable and lacks a lot of features that are otherwise present in the Windows package.
One of Chrome's main advantages over other web browsers is the way it handles tabs as separate processes. Why is this important? Well, if a web page crashes, it doesn't take the whole browser with it, but only the tab it was opened in, significantly increasing overall stability.
Undelete files in Ubuntu using Foremost.
Foremost is a Linux tool originally developed by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the Center for Information Systems Security Studies and Research. Primarily thought of a data forensics tool for law enforcement, the program has been released to the public. Here we'll try using it for a specific purpose. Rather than explore all its capabilities, we'll look at one area particularly helpful to Linux users - to undelete files in Ubuntu.
